Obituary for Helen L. Amrik (Kohles)

Helen L. Amrik, of Philadelphia, passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family,
on August 5th. She was 92 years old. Helen was a homemaker for most of her life. Helen volunteered year after year at the Philadelphia public school system, working at the various schools her children attended. Helen volunteered in the Ways and Means committee, cafeteria mom, librarian’s assistant to name a few.
Helen was also one of the first volunteers who fundraised with various events in order to build what is now Jefferson Torresdale Hospital on Knights Rd. in the far northeast of Philadelphia. Once up and running, Helen volunteered in the hospital at the volunteer desk as well as walking around with a cart with items for sale for the patients. Finally, Helen’s greatest legacy is truly her prayer life. Helen was devoted to God even as a child and it was clear to her that God had entrusted her with praying for people in need. Helen and a childhood friend prayed every day and lit candles in church for every WWII soldier who went to war in the East Falls area of Philadelphia. A devoted Christian, Helen quickly was sought out to pray for the sick and needy. Helen held and attended various prayer meetings lifting up the injured, dying and needy. Continual answers to prayers led many childless couples to ask her to pray and everyone who Helen prayed for always conceived. Helen was praying from a weekly prayer list until her death. She will be deeply missed by her children: Dr. Deborah Hagey (Steven), Catherine M. Conrow, Rudolph W. Amrik (Theresa), Barbara Mitchell (Gregory), and her grandchildren: Christopher Conrow (Carolyn), Michael Conrow (Jennifer), Brandi Conrow, Scott Amrik (Nicole), Nicholas Amrik, Daniel Amrik, Joshua Mitchell, and Matthew Mitchell, as well as her great grandchildren: Alyssa Conrow, Jack Conrow, James Amrik, Landon Amrik, and Molly Amrik. Helen was preceded in death her beloved husband of 62 years, Rudolph V. Amrik in 2013.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Helen’s Committal at Washington’s Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940 on Wednesday, August 24th at precisely 9:00 am, followed by a Memorial Service at Cornwells United Methodist Church, 2284 Bristol Pike, Bensalem, PA 19020 at 11:00 am.
