Obituary for Kevin James Byrne

Kevin James Byrne, 65, of Bensalem, PA sadly passed on April 10th, 2021. Beloved and devoted father of Carly. Dear brother of Paul and John (Kathleen) and the late Thomas (Diana). Adored Uncle of Kyle, Arianna, Molly, & Alexandra. A long-time partner and friend to Carly’s mom, Lori Byrne. Kevin was born and raised in Huntington, NY to the late James and Irene (nee Peterson) Byrne. Loved by many cousins, especially Eleanor Sendkewitz (Barry) and Eddie Peterson (Diane). Kevin graduated from Walt Whitman High School, South Huntington, NY, Class of 1973 and Binghamton University, Class of 1977.
Kevin, a genuine heart-warming friend to all, will surely be missed. Never shy, Kevin brought a lively and joyous atmosphere to all gatherings, whether it be the family’s Christmas celebration, Huntington’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade, a day at the racetrack, a little league game, a niece’s dance recital/play, card night with the boys, one of his many visits to The Homestead Restaurant in Oyster Bay, NY for his favorite plate of baked clams and where he was known as “The Clam Man”, his weekly Wednesday afternoon lunch with friends at Uno Pizzeria & Grill, or Sunday morning breakfast at Kelly’s Kitchen. He touched the lives of many, even if it was just for a simple laugh and a smile. Kevin was thoughtful and very generous with his time, often helping an elderly friend with her groceries or stopping and chatting with a neighbor. One of his passions was to send holiday and birthday cards to family and friends. He could often be found in the aisle of the local card store giggling at the perfectly found card.
Kevin was a retired insurance specialist from New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Group, in West Trenton, New Jersey. Kevin was an avid New York sports fan, especially the Jets and the Mets. He enjoyed going to the racetrack, playing cards, watching movies from his vast collection, tuning in to classic TV episodes of Perry Mason, The Three Stooges, and Johnny Carson, among others, catching the early Saturday morning Looney Tunes cartoons, planning day trips with Carly to Philadelphia for the latest production at Walnut Street Theatre, taking the kiddies to Carvel for ice cream, and visiting with family and friends. Kevin was a one of a kind, the best kind of friend you could ever have, and we are all very blessed and better for having known him.
To respect the safety of family and friends a funeral mass and memorial celebration will be held at a later date. We are forever grateful to those who have provided love, support, kind thoughts, and prayers during this difficult time. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service on Friday, April 16th at 12:00 PM at Resurrection Cemetery, 5201 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, Pa, 19020. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of The Kevin James Byrne Memorial Fund at http://giftfunds.stjude.org/KevinJamesByrne.
