Dear Rosemarie, Karl and Heidi,

We are sad to hear that Walt has passed away, but hopeful that he is now resting in peace. I appreciate his many years of friendship with my mom and dad, and his gentle encouragement to me to be an engineer. I will never forget that he was the first person to ask for my resume when I graduated from Drexel, and he submitted it to GE for consideration. It was a wonderful boost of confidence. Like many, I marveled at his ability to play the accordion, remembering so many melodies, and delivering them with depth and spirit. He gave the competition teams a dependable and steady floor to dance upon (way before the introduction of metronomes). I was honored when he presented the Schuhplattler song (Steingadner) that he wrote to Charlie Miller and I. We spent a few weeks creating a new dance that fit the melody, attempting to impress him and Ray enough to let us introduce it to the group. This artistic creation will live on with the Almrausch and we will always remember his decades of contributions that brought us such joy.
We send our love and best wishes to your entire family.

Dear Rosemarie, Karl and Heidi,
We are so desperately sorry to learn of Walt's passing.
He was a big man with a big heart. Always appreciated his firm,
resolute handshake. Dearly wish I could shake his hand one more time. Congratulating
him on a life well lived, a wife well loved and children well raised.

The joy he brought to audiences with his lively accordion melodies,
made generations smile for decades. In fact, for a while, Walt inspired me to possibly learn
the accordion. I approached him once, while he was playing and said, "Walt, I'll never be
able to do this schuhplattler / dancing thing but maybe I could learn to play the accordion.
I'm 48. What do you think?" Not skipping a beat, gently rocking from side to side, Walt said, "Sure you could."
My spirits soared. He then added, "You won't be any good until you're 60."
Oh well.

GOD, how we laughed.

I'm sure he's up there playing for the ever-growing CELESTIAL Almrausch
Schuhplattlers right now.

Don and Hedy
